The Belgian family company Van Hoecke, experts in high-end furniture fittings, completed a new industrial building in Sint Niklaas (BE) this year. The façade of the building had to be striking, modern and sustainable and in keeping with the special, sleek look of Van Hoecke's products. The wish was to go one step further on all fronts. The architect requested Zwarthout l Shou Sugi Ban to provide uniform cladding that could age a little, but not as fast as natural wood. Ultimately Marugame was chosen, which has a characteristic, even pattern in the carbon layer. The result turned out to be even more beautiful than expected as the façade has a beautiful uniform appearance, with light shades.
