Our treated Ayagawa is the same wood as the ordinary Ayagawa. The carbon layer of the wood is strengthened and treated so it no longer stains. Ayagawa is the oak variant of the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban. The robust oak wood has a beautiful characteristic pattern. Ayagawa will acquire a nice, dull black colour when charred in the flames of our oven. The carbon layer of Ayagawa is stronger than, for example, that of Douglas wood. As the carbon layer ages over the years it will develop a beautiful patina (weathering). This type of Ayagawa is perfect for indoor use.
